  • Since its inception, a prescription discount card launched by Herkimer County has saved residents more than $2 million.
The ProAct Prescription Discount Card was started in May 2009, targeting people who are uninsured or underinsured by providing financial relief at the pharmacy checkout.
Not only has it saved individuals money, but residents have utilized the card for more than 75,000 prescriptions.
Every prescription receives a discount, including some pet medications.
When visiting the pharmacy, the card is presented and individuals receive an average of 10 to 20 percent in savings off name-brand medication and 20 to 70 percent off generic medications.

By partnering with ProAct, Herkimer County is one of many counties across the country that is able to provide its residents, regardless of age or income, affordable access to a healthier lifestyle. The program is free for the county and its residents.
The cards are provided to county offices including the Department of Social Services, the Public Health Department, the County Legislature Office and to all participating pharmacies.
