A benefit to bring financial relief to families affected by the shooting and fire that rocked the valley last week will take place Sunday.
The Love and Compassion Benefit will be divided equally between eight families: the six families of Kurt Myers’ shooting victims and two families displaced by a fire set at Myers’ apartment building.
An item drive will also benefit the Cooperstown Canine Training Center, in memory of Ape, a K9 unit killed before police shot and killed Myers.
There are two parts to Sunday’s event: One is the main benefit, which includes food, live music and a 50/50 raffle, which occurs from noon to 8 p.m. at the American Legion in Mohawk (43 W. Main St.). There is a $10 entrance fee.
The second component is an auction held at Francesca’s Banquet Hall in Ilion. Tickets for the auction will be sold from noon to 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. drawing. Admission to the auction is free.
