  • Joanne Jones, 70, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at her home.

  • Joanne Jones, 70, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at her home.
    Joanne was born April 7, 1942 in Lansing, Mich., the daughter of Evaughn Strand Jones and the late Joseph Vincent Jones. Joanne graduated from Sunbright High School in Sunbright, Tenn. Until her retirement in 2000, she was an inspector for Rockwell Corp. (Anorad) in Hauppauge.
    After moving to Herkimer in 2003, Joanne spent her days gardening, painting, wallpapering, going to the casino and hunting for the best bargains at local thrift shops and Good Will. She spent a few years volunteering at the First United Methodist Church Thrift Shop in Ilion and volunteering at the church dinners with her now deceased companion, William Wiernicki, formerly of Ilion. Joanne also loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, sitting on her porch and enjoying the summer weather while visiting with neighbors, family and friends.
    In addition to her mother, Evaughn Jones, of Deer Lodge, Tenn., survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Elizabeth Jones, of Florida, and Jerry and Jill Jones, of Tennessee, and her daughters and their spouses and partners, Janine Giordano and David Phillips, Joy and Dennis Presta, and Jeana Giacobbe and Tom Brown, all of Herkimer. Grandchildren include Jennifer Pape and her partner, Thomas Reid, John Pape, Anthony Giordano, Alexandra Rose Giordano, James Giacobbe and Matthew Giacobbe, all of Herkimer. She is also survived by her former husband, Leonard Solicito, of Florida. Nieces and nephews include Alicia Kaminski, Gayle Jones, Lindsay and Noah Jones and Susan Cusano. Also surviving Joanne is her best friend and “sister,” Carol Rex, of Ilion. She was predeceased by her first daughter, Janie Louise Snow, who passed in 2007, and also by her recent companion, William Wiernicki, of Ilion, who passed in 2009.
    Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at 9 a.m. at the Church of Saints Anthony & Joseph, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Thomas Lawless. Friends and relatives may call at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer (866-1500).
