  • The Ilion and Mohawk Teachers Associations will sponsor a Meet the Candidates night Thursday, March 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. in room 288 of the McLaughlin College Center at Herkimer County Community College to help voters prepare for the election of a new school board for the merged Ilion-Mohawk school district.
Mohawk Teachers Association President Shelly McCarthy said all 21 candidates for the board have been notified and nine had responded as of Monday afternoon.
The amount of time each candidate is given to make a brief statement will vary depending on how many candidates are present, McCarthy said.
If all 21 attend, they will each have two minutes to make a statement. If there are a dozen, they may have four or five minutes.
Once each candidate has an opportunity to speak, those in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions.
