  • Congressman Richard Hanna visited Little Falls Hospital Friday morning for a tour.
Herkimer County’s only hospital is embarking on a $12.5 million project to upgrade its facility to accommodate the high demands for outpatient services.
Chief Executive Officer Michael Ogden said the Healthy Hospital, Healthy Community Campaign has raised more than $1.3 million so far and is on its way to meeting its goal in support of a project that will enhance outpatient and ambulatory care and result in better patient experience.
“The expansion and renovation is desperately needed, and we very much appreciate the support the campaign has already seen,” said Ogden. “We believe the success of this campaign is recognition of the fact that an investment in Little Falls Hospital is an investment in the community’s health.”
Other planned improvements include updating the surgical suite as well as radiology, cardiology and rehabilitation services.
During his tour Hanna, R - Barneveld, met with Ogden and several other officials to discus matters regarding the future of the hospital.
Although the hospital is the only hospital in Herkimer County Ogden said he is afraid with the federal government trying to eliminate small hospitals, Little Falls could be next.
“We’ve been leading the health care reform march for several years and we feel we have met the needs of people that state and federal health care programs should be providing,” said Ogden.
He added, “We’ve been making changes we think are necessary to our care programs over the past 10 years, which have changed the positioning of the hospital as a outpatient service facility. Little Falls Hospital is here, we’re alive and part of a thriving growing network that is doing things right in health care reform, but for the future we need protection.
Hanna addressed Ogden’s concern stating, “Little Falls Hospital has made much progress, especially battling through a past of financial difficulty. With its combined affiliated outpatient services the hospital serves 30 to 40 thousand people. We need to keep Little Falls Hospital here in Herkimer County.”
