Dolgeville needed five games to dispatch the Sandy Creek Comets Wednesday but the Blue Devils earned a chance to defend their Class C-2 title with a come-from-behind 3-2 Section III semifinal victory at South Lewis High School.
The Blue Devils, seeded third, trailed 1-0 and 2-1 before beating the second seed 8-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19. Dolgeville meets No. 1 Morrisville-Eaton, a 3-0 winner over Waterville Wednesday, at noon Saturday in the second of five championship matches at Chittenango High School.
Ashley Mettler had 21 kills, 23 digs and 10 assists for Dolgeville (13-5), reaching double figures in all three categories in her second consecutive playoff match. Mikey Rubas had 10 kills, two blocks, two aces and two digs; Emily Young had 19 assists, four kills and six digs and served 14-for-14 with two aces; Chelsea Bennett served 19-for-19 with an ace and had four digs; Abby Mosenthin had five kills, two assists and eight digs; Taylor Brandow had three kills, four blocks and eight digs and served 24-for-26 with an ace; Kiersten Manchester had 10 digs; Courtney Rachon had six digs, a kill and two assists; Annabelle Lee had five digs, two kills and an assist; Rachael Randall and Emily Briggs each had one dig; and Mettler served three aces.
Kylie Hanni had 15 kill and two blocks for Sandy Creek (15-5); Michaela Martin had five aces and five kills; Viki White had 17 assists; and Kylie Martin had 18 assists.
Morrisville-Eaton (16-2) swept three games from Waterville in its semifinal match at Westmoreland High School. The Warriors won by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20.
