  • Thomas E. Perkins, 76, of Salisbury, New York, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, New York, with his loving family by his side.

  • Thomas E. Perkins, 76, of Salisbury, New York, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, New York, with his loving family by his side.
    Tom was born on April 10, 1936, in Stratford, New York, a son of the late Allison and Ida (Daley) Perkins. He attended Stratford Central School and graduated with the class of 1954. Upon graduation, Tom enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
    On November 16, 1957, Tom was united in marriage to Sally A. Walters at the Herkimer Methodist Church. They shared a blessed union of 44 years until her passing on March 26, 2002.
    He worked for many years at various companies as a specialist machinist with 20 years at Pettibone of Rome, New York. The last 15 years of his career was spent with the New York State Canal Corp. as a Maintenance Forman of Albany, New York. Tom served as President-Leader Steward of the Public Employees Federation of New York State Canals until his retirement on September 26, 2001.
    Tom was a life time member of Salisbury Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club, Oppenheim Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post 21, in Little Falls, and East Canada Fish and Game Club. Tom enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, hunting, any outdoor activities, and being a devoted member and volunteer to his clubs. Lastly, Tom enjoyed traveling and was able to visit many places with his companion, Ruth, the past few years.
    Tom’s greatest time spent was in the company of those he loved the most, his family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren for which he loved fondly. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and grand-dog, Katie. As a devoted family man and dear friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew Tom.
    He is survived by his beloved companion, Ruth Johnson Edick, of Stratford, NY, and her family; his loving children, Thomas Perkins, Jr., and his wife, Becky, of Dolgeville, NY, and Crystal Brandow and her husband, Larry, of Dolgeville, NY; his cherished grandchildren, Brandon Perkins and his companion, Amanda Hart, Janelle Brandow, and her fiancee, Bryan D’Aoust, Matthew Perkins, Kelsey Brandow and his wife, Megan, and Shane Perkins; brothers, Allan Perkins and his wife, Karen, Keith Perkins and his wife, Yvonne; sisters, Eileen Muller, Kathleen Lasher and her husband, Claude, Bernadette Metz and her companion, Dave Cool, Marilyn Servidone and her husband, Ralph, Alicia Blowers and her husband, Bill, and Kathy Morse and her husband Frank; brother-in-law, George Walters; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Daley, on August 1, 1989.
    Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, NY. A funeral service for Tom will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home, with Pastor Ken Allen officiating. Interment will be in Salisbury Rural Cemetery in the spring at a time to be announced.
