The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs settled for a split with Glens Falls over the weekend after the Golden Eagles won 7-5 Saturday at East Field.
The DiamondDawgs got a dominant start from Joe Michaud at home Friday and Jack Morrow homered twice at Veterans Memorial Park in a 7-1 victory. The teams were knotted in a scoreless tie until Morrow drilled the first of his home runs, a three-run shot to right-center with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tyler Heck had started the inning with a single against Ryan Peterson and Eric Helmrich followed with a hit of his own to put runners on the corners.
Morrow would homer again leading off the eighth inning to help secure Michaud’s third win in four starts. The Bryant University right-hander struck out 15 batters and walked none while allowing five hits in seven scoreless innings.
“The story today was Joe,” DiamondDawgs manager Roberto Vaz said. “Michaud was awesome. He got ahead of hitters and he got ahead with all three pitches. ... He’s been good for us right from the start but he was really good today.”
The Golden Eagles scored an unearned run against Taylor Wright in the eighth inning before Sal Lisanti set them down in order in the ninth.
The home runs were Morrow’s fourth and team-high fifth of the season and he now leads the team with 17 runs batted in. Heck had two hits and scored two runs while Mark Stuckey and Eddie Sorondo each added a pair of hits.
Mike Vigliarolo had two hits for Glens Falls Friday and drove in the team’s only run.
The Golden Eagles built a 5-0 lead at home Saturday and held on to even the score with Mohawk Valley. The DiamondDawgs trailed 6-2 into the eighth inning and rallied in their last two at-bats.
In the top of the eighth, Morrow singled in a run and Chris Cruz added a run-scoring double before Jonathan Scott flew out with the tying runs in scoring position.
Glens Falls got a run back in the bottom of the eighth but the DiamondDawgs went back to work in the ninth. Hassan Evans walked with one out and David Del Grande singled with two. Heck’s single brought home a run  and put the tying run on base again before Jared Cheek struck out Helmrich.
Helmrich had homered earlier in Saturday’s game and had two hits and two runs scored. Cruz also had two hits to go with Heck’s three.
Danny Brennan drove in two runs for the Golden Eagles while Emmanuel Forcier, Alberto Morales and Kevin Meyers all had two hits.
