  • Fort Plain's 4th on the 3rd Celebration set

  • The 25th annual 4th on the 3rd, Fourth of July Celebration complete with a fireworks display, will take place on Tuesday, July 3, at Wiles Park and in the Village of Fort Plain.



    This year, the Fort Plain Community Activities Council is dedicating the event to the founder of the 4th on the 3rd, Dawn Hanifin.

  • The 25th annual 4th on the 3rd, Fourth of July Celebration complete with a fireworks display, will take place on Tuesday, July 3, at Wiles Park and in the Village of Fort Plain.
    This year, the Fort Plain Community Activities Council is dedicating the event to the founder of the 4th on the 3rd, Dawn Hanifin.
    “She was a dedicated and proud supporter of community spirit,” observed Jim Katovitch, council chairperson. “In Dawn’s honor, we think we have succeeded in offering something for everyone this year, and most of the events are free.”
    While most activities will be centered in Wiles Park, the celebration officially begins at 9 a.m. with Fishing Derby sign-up at the Fort Plain bridge for children and adult classes. The Fishing Derby is free and sponsored by the Central Mohawk Valley Lions Club, and concludes at 2 p.m.; trophies will be awarded at 6 p.m.
    New this year are demonstrations of Birds of Prey by the New York Wildlife Rescue Center and Reptile demonstrations by Rhonda Leavitt, both from 4-8 p.m.
    Families with young children will delight in the Bounce House, sponsored by Price Chopper, the Inflatable Slide and Obstacle Course and food concessions offering hot dogs, hamburgers, fried dough, soda and water, all of which is available from 3-9 p.m. The Shriners Clowns, sponsored by Empower Federal Credit Union, will perform from 4-8 p.m. Horse-drawn hay wagon rides to the Fort Plain Museum and back will also operate from 4-8 p.m.
    The Dependents, Jocelyn and Christian Arndt with Evan Searles, will perform from 2pm to 5pm.
    The New York State National Guard Drug Awareness Program will sponsor a free Rock Climbing Wall from 3-6 p.m. and Empower Federal Credit Union will offer an Old Time Photo Booth from 4-8 p.m.
    Big Al’s Classic Car Cruise-In will be in Haslett Park, downtown Fort Plain, from 5-8 p.m.
    Wayne Tucker will DJ and emcee from 3-11 p.m. in Wiles Park and Craft Fair and non-profit booths will be open from 3-9 p.m.
    Brooks Chicken Barbecue dinners will be sold by the Fort Plain Reformed Church from 4-7 p.m. There is a separate parking area for take-outs; ask at the park entrance.
    Throughout the day and evening one may leave CDs, playing cards, workbooks and other such items for our veterans at the Elks Club booth. The Lustre Kings bring classic rock & roll and R & B to Wiles Park from 5-8 p.m.
    Beginning at 6 p.m., you can play Just for Fun Bingo with prizes, watch a Little League All-Star Exhibition Game, or sign up for the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks Club Horseshoe Tournament. Play begins at 6:30 p.m.
    Page 2 of 2 - The band Spike and the Boys will entertain from 8-11 p.m. Musical performances at the 4th on the 3rd Celebration are funded by a NYS Council on the Arts Fulton-Montgomery Arts Grant.
    At 8 p.m., the Sons of American Vets will hold a Memorial Balloon Launch honoring all veterans.
    The enormous Fireworks display will take place at 9:45 p.m. This event is underwritten by the Big Bang Club, NBT Bank and the Yerdon Foundation. The Bonfire and Community Sing-a-Long begins at 10pm, at the conclusion of the fireworks display.
