  • Jane Marie McEvilly Mahoney, daughter of the late Jere J. McEvilly, MD, and Mildred J. Magill McEvilly, RN, passed away on May 22, 2012. The cause of death was carcinoid cancer.
Jane Marie was born in Albany, New York, on November 7, 1928. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and Marymount College, Tarrytown, New York. While in college, Jane Marie served as a class treasurer for each of her four years and also served on the student council. She did graduate work at SUNY New Paltz.
Jane Marie taught elementary school in Little Falls, New York, and is fondly remembered by many of her students. Throughout her life, she was known for her friendliness and concern for others. On February 12, 1955, she was married to David L. Mahoney and the couple resided in Little Falls until 2001 when they moved to New Hartford. As Little Falls natives, the couple took part in many civic activities individually and together. Jane Marie, at one time, was involved in reorganizing Girl Scouting in the city. She was president of the St. Mary's Altar Rosary Society, and served on the boards of the WCA, Community Chest, Herkimer County Hospice and Catholic Charities. She had been a member of the Cedar Lake Club, the Catholic Women's Club and the Utica Curling Club.
Surviving are her husband, David; her children, Dan and his life partner, Thomas Owens, of Palm Springs, California, Ellen and her husband, Mark R. Floyd, of Riverside, Connecticut, and Col. William and Col. Marie Mahoney, of Chesterfield, Virginia; as well as four grandchildren, Emily Bridget and William Melton Floyd, and Maxwell Thomas and Maura Grace Mahoney.
At her request, her body is donated to Syracuse Medical School. A public Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Genesee Street, Utica, New York. For those considering a memorial gift, Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., is suggested. Services for the family are being provided by the Enea Family Funeral Home.
