A benefit in memory of 14-year-old Kali Guyer will take place this weekend to raise money for a scholarship in her name and to help her family.
The event will take place at the Ilion Snowdrifters Club on Sunday, June 3, from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and $5 for children five years of age and younger. Food and drink will be provided. There will be basket raffles, a dessert auction and a 50/50 raffle. Music will be provided by DJ Leo Rinaldi.
In a flyer promoting the event, Guyer is remembered as “a beautiful, fun, energetic and caring person who will be missed by many. She touched many lives in her own short life. Kali will always be remembered for her smile and contagious laugh and her upbeat attitude will continue to inspire all who knew her.”
Guyer died as a result of injuries sustained when she was struck by a car on Route 5S on April 6. She was an eighth grader at Jarvis Junior-Senior High School in Mohawk and was active in the Mohawk Pop Warner Cheerleading Squad, and was involved with the school’s band and chorus.
Laura LiBritz, one of the organizers, said half the money raised will go toward a scholarship and the other half will go toward Guyer’s family.
“She was very caring, very kind to everybody else and always found something to smile about and to laugh about,” said LiBritz, who was Guyer’s cheerleading coach for four years.
