  • Mrs. Martha H. (Yaghy) Ellis, 97, passed away on Oct. 9, 2012, at Rex Rehab Center, Raleigh, N.C.
    She was born on Oct. 1, 1915, in Utica, a daughter of the late Albert and Anna Yaghy, and was the wife of the late Joseph Ellis. Martha and Joe moved to Emmonsburg in 1946 and purchased the Emmonsburg Restaurant, which they operated for many years. They were very involved in the community and instrumental in the creation of the S&S Ambulance Service.
    Martha was employed for many years with Daniel Greene Slipper Company in Dolgeville, until her retirement.
    She is survived by her three loving daughters, Noor (Timothy) Bauder, of Ilion, and Marjo Ellis and Jomar Krawec, both of Raleigh, N.C.; her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fay Dmitri, of Middleville, and Jenny Stabile, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Arzett Bosco and Marge Yaghy, both of Utica. She was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Bouziden, Mary Izzo and Emily Valencourt, and four brothers, Joseph (Hindu) Yaghy, George (Tabby) Yaghy, Abdula (Abby) Yaghy and Hickel (Ike) Yaghy.
    Her life was celebrated in a Christian Mass on Oct. 13, 2012, in Raleigh, N.C. A private interment service was held on Oct. 19, 2012, in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Salisbury, officiated by Brian Roberts of Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, Dolgeville.
