  • Herkimer High School senior Cristina Chilelli has won this year’s An Artistic Discovery contest.
Congressman Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld, presented her with the award Saturday at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, where students from across the 22nd Congressional District who placed in their countywide art competition showcased their work.
The winners, selected by a panel of judges, are:
    • First place: Herkimer High School senior Cristina Chilelli for “Cat Face,” colored pencil.
    • Second place: Homer Senior High School junior Alice Jenkins for “Hidden Brook,” acrylic paints.
    • Third place: Clinton High School junior Mae Dinh for “Illuminated Contrivance,” photography.
    • Honorable mention: Cortland Junior-Senior High School senior Elisabeth Sprague for “Remember?” charcoal.
Chilelli’s artwork will hang in the tunnel to the U.S. Capitol for the entire year of the exhibition and she is invited to attend a luncheon with other national winners.
Jenkins’ artwork will hang in Hanna’s Washington, D.C. office and Dinh’s artwork will be displayed in his Utica office.
Hanna personally donates a cash prize to the top three winners.
An Artistic Discovery is a nationwide high school visual art competition founded in 1982.
