  • SCHOLASTIC GOLF: Ilion beats Little Falls in season's first match

    All six Golden Bombers shot 47 or better as Ilion opened its season Tuesday with a 165-185 win over the Little Falls Mounties at the Little Falls Municipal Golf Course.

    All six Golden Bombers shot 47 or better as Ilion opened its season Tuesday with a 165-185 win over the Little Falls Mounties at the Little Falls Municipal Golf Course.
    Medalist Dan North shot a 38 for the Golden Bombers (1-0) and Patrick Bergin, his partner in the first foursome, added a 40. Ben Stone shot a 43 and Steven Bergin had a 44 to complete the team scoring. Michael Bergin came in at 46 and Zach terry had a 47.
    Austin Clough’s 41 was the low round for Little Falls (0-1). Vinny Visconti shot a 46 in his first varsity match and Jimmy Amuso added a 47. Zack Bright’s 51 capped the team scoring.
    Ilion plays on the road again Wednesday against Herkimer while Little Falls’ next match is Thursday at home against West Canada Valley.
     
    WEST CANADA VALLEY 176, POLAND 232
    NEWPORT, N.Y. — Freshman Bobby Davenport shot a three-over-par round of 39 Tuesday and the West Canada Valley Indians started their season with a 176-232 victory over Poland at the Golf Club of Newport.
    Chad Pickerd and Zenon Czernecki each shot 45 on his home course for the Indians (1-0) while Tyler Harvey carded a 47 and Cris Boerger had a 49.
    Devin Bush’s 53 was the low round for Poland (0-1).
    Poland takes on Oriskany at home Wednesday and West Canada Valley heads to Little Falls Thursday.
    MT. MARKHAM 197, COOPERSTOWN 199
    CLAYVILLE, N.Y. — Cody Homer shot the low round for Mt. Markham Tuesday and the Mustangs defeated Cooperstown’s Redskins by two strokes.
    Homer’s 41 was five strokes over par at Cedar Lake and helped the Mustangs (1-1) score a 197-199 victory in their first match on their home course.
    Harrison Clinton shot a 45 for Cooperstown (0-1).
    The Mustangs take on Herkimer Thursday at the Mohawk Valley Country Club.
