  • The Herkimer County Community College Generals are heading back to Minnesota after sweeping their Region III-A championship series from Tompkins Cortland Community College Friday.
The Generals won 8-0 and 13-3 at Cornell University after the games were moved in anticipation of poor weather. The championship is the second in a row for Herkimer and sends the generals to the NJCAA’s Division III World Series in Rochester, Minn.
Toni Secreti pitched a five-hit shutout in the 10 a.m. first game which was completed ahead of approaching rain.
Rain that fell during the first game of the best-of-three Region III-B series had mostly stopped by the time the Generals and Panthers returned to the field at 2 p.m. and Herkimer delivered its knockout punch. Playing as the visiting team, Herkimer (39-2) scored two runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the second to take an early 4-0 lead on the way to its 14th consecutive victory. The Generals led 13-1 before allowing a two-run home run in the last inning.
Monroe Community College defeated Mohawk Valley Community College 8-0 and 13-5 in the Region III-B series.
