  • Margaret "Peggy" E. Voorhees, 84, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 29, 2012, at her home in the Town of Manheim, New York.

  • Margaret "Peggy" E. Voorhees, 84, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 29, 2012, at her home in the Town of Manheim, New York.
    She was born on May 28, 1927, in Little Falls, NY, a daughter to the late Ward and Ruth (Mager) Suits. She was educated at Little Falls High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. Peggy attended Ellis Nursing School upon her graduation from high school. In 1948, Peggy married Harold "Porky" Voorhees. They shared a union of 31 years until his passing on June 2, 1978. She spent the early part of her life raising her four children and tending to her home. In later years, she and her husband purchased the "Halfway House" in 1966. After Peggy's husband passed away, she continued to run the restaurant on her own. Peggy took great pride in running her business and was known for "holding her own" when the need would arise.
    She is survived by her beloved children, daughter, Andrea Hopson, of Dolgeville, NY, and sons, Brian Voorhees and his wife, MiChong, of Dolgeville, Mark Voorhees, of Salisbury Center, NY, and David Voorhees, of Orwell, NY; two daughters-in-law, LuAnn Voorhees and Pixie Hart Jarman; her cherished grandchildren, Eric Hopson, Ryan Hopson, Drew Hopson, Jefferson Voorhees, Samantha Voorhees, Catherine Voorhees, Rebecca Hall and her husband, Eric, Daniel Voorhees and his wife, Mandy, David Voorhees, Jr., Christian Voorhees and his wife, Tiffiney, and Sarah Voorhees Romine and her husband, Jay; great-grandchildren, Emma Hall, Isaiah and Laiton Voorhees, Joey Hart, Sylvan Hopson, Tyler, Jared, Parker and McKenzie Rose Voorhees, David, III, Drew and Dylan Voorhees, and Orrin, Isabella, Paxton and Cruiz Romine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Harold "Porky" Voorhees, in 1979; a son-in-law, William Hopson, in 1984; a great-nephew, Tyler Scanlon, in 2009; and a nephew, Douglas Voorhees, in 2010.
    A memorial graveside service will he held at Rural Park Cemetery in Ingham's Mills, NY, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. The Voorhees Family is being cared for by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York.
    The family would like to thank Duane Brado for his kindness through the years. Peggy's family would also like to thank Eunice Hight, Jim Walczak and Siri Moore for their compassion, kindness and care for Peggy in the past few months.
    In lieu of floral offerings, the family has asked that memorial contributions be considered for the Herkimer County Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Mohawk, New York 13407.
