A Richfield Springs man died at a local hospital after being struck by a car Tuesday in the town of Columbia, state police said.
George Hotaling, 49, was operating a motorized wheelchair near the intersection of State Route 28 and McKoons Road at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when he entered the roadway and was struck by a southbound car on state Route 28, police said. The driver of the car, 55-year-old Maureen Meyerhoff, also of Richfield Springs, was unable to avoid the collision, police said.
Hotaling was airlifted to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the Otsego County coroner, police said.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
