  • A Little Falls woman died Tuesday evening after she was struck by a motor vehicle in the 300 block of West Main Street, police said Wednesday.
Mildred L. Wilson, 85, was on foot at about 5:34 p.m. when she was struck by a car driven by 20-year-old Kyle Harlow, of Dolgeville, police said. Wilson was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica where she was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Police Chief Michael Masi said based on preliminary investigation it appears Harlow was traveling in a westerly direction on West Main Street and Wilson was crossing West Main Street pushing a cart.
Masi said Harlow did not see Wilson due to low lighting conditions and because Wilson was wearing dark clothing. He said Harlow immediately stopped the vehicle upon realizing he struck someone.
“Although the investigation into the accident is still ongoing, there is no indication the operator of the vehicle did anything wrong,” said Masi. “Based on witness statements it does not appear speed was a factor. The victim’s family was notified and was with her when she passed away.”
He added police are taking statements about the accident that occurred in front of 317 W. Main St.
“There was no crosswalk, no light, no intersection,” he said. “She was just crossing the street.”
Police said the passenger side front quarter panel and the passenger side mirror of Harlow’s vehicle struck Wilson.
