  • As spring entices you to do some cleaning, the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority reminds residents of the options available to properly dispose of waste.
Household hazardous waste items like paint, oil and gasoline, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaning solvents and other common household items can be delivered at no charge to the authority’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 80 Leland Avenue in Utica.
This material is accepted from April 1 to September 31 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A new program also has been launched for those who want to recycle bulky, rigid plastic items that cannot be accepted and recycled through curbside recycling. These items can be brought to the authority’s Utica or Rome facilities during regular business hours free of charge.
Bulky, rigid plastic items are hard plastic, such as clean, empty plastic buckets and pails, drums, totes and garbage cans, plastic toys like playhouses, plastic lawn furniture and coolers and many other items.
Styrofoam and plastic appliances are not acceptable under this program.
For more information on the programs, visit www.ohswa.org, or call the main office at 733-1224.
The RecycleOne Facebook page also provides information.
