  • Kurt Myers is still about as much a mystery today as he was the day he shot six people in a murderous rampage across Herkimer County one week ago, authorities said.
State police investigators have nearly exhausted their search for answers to explain why 64-year-old Myers appeared to randomly gun down his victims – killing four – at a barbershop in Mohawk and Gaffey’s Fast Lube in Herkimer before hiding inside an abandoned bar last Wednesday.
And despite efforts to find anyone who knew the loner, nobody has come forward to offer any insight into the man whose motives may never been known, state police said.
“I think we’re basically at the point now where we’re finishing up the reports, and I don’t see anybody coming forward at this point,” state police Trooper Jack Keller said Wednesday.|
Anyone with information about Myers can call state police in Herkimer at 866-7275.
Investigators borrowed from other agencies have already been returned as those remaining investigators in Herkimer wrap up any loose ends, including a review of Myers’ bank records.
That leaves one last aspect to explore – whether a pending analysis of Myers’ cell phone will lead investigators to anyone Myers might have talked to in the days leading up to last week’s shooting spree.
Myers was killed in a shootout with police following a 19-hour standoff after he first shot a K-9 unit inside the former Glory Days bar in Herkimer.
State police were not yet releasing autopsy results for the four victims, including how many times each was shot. The two surviving victims were still hospitalized Wednesday, with John Seymour listed in fair condition and Dan Haslauer still critical.
