"We knew that this case -- like all campaign finance cases -- would be challenging. But it is our duty to bring hard cases when we believe that the facts and the law support charging a candidate for high office with a crime." - Lanny Breuer of the Justice Department, talking Wednesday afternoon about John Edwards. All remaining charges against the one-time presidential candidate are being dropped. Two weeks ago, a jury acquited Edwards of one charge against him, and the other charges in that case were declared a mistrial.
