    The Herkimer County Community College Generals closed out their regular season Tuesday with a pair of wins at East Field against SUNY-Adirondack.



    Ranked 10th in the NJCAA in Division III, the Generals (27-12, 26-4 Region III) won by scores for 7-6 and 8-1. They are nationally-ranked for the eighth year in a row.

    The Herkimer County Community College Generals closed out their regular season Tuesday with a pair of wins at East Field against SUNY-Adirondack.
    Ranked 10th in the NJCAA in Division III, the Generals (27-12, 26-4 Region III) won by scores for 7-6 and 8-1. They are nationally-ranked for the eighth year in a row.
    Herkimer had big leads in both games — 7-0 in the first, 6-0 in the second — but had to hold on at the end to win the first game as Adirondack rallied in the late innings.
    Ryan Watson and Cody Newbigging had run-scoring singles in the first inning of the first game Four more runs came home in the third when Justin Stevener, Brent Baker and Hayden Caffey, the nos. 7, 8 and 9 batters, all had RBI-doubles.
    Kyle Garrison and Rob Hardy each pitched two scoreless innings in the opener as Herkimer tuned its pitching staff up for the postseason. Nick Burch, the fifth Herkimer pitcher, got the final four outs and notched his first save.
    Newbigging went 4-for-4 and Watson had two hits among the generals’ 13.
    Herkimer had 16 more hits in Game 2, including a two-run Chris Burns home run in the 5th inning. Brandon Overstreet and Dan Smith went 3-for-4 and Burns was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in
    The wins gave Herkimer a 24-2 finish in the Mountain Valley Conference.
    The Generals will be home Saturday for a sub-regional playoff game against an undetermined opponent. They will host the Region III Final Four the following weekend at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls.
