  • Mary M. Schutz (Reardon), 95, of Little Falls, passed away peacefully at home on Good Friday, March 29, 2013.
Born February 5, 1918, in Ilion, NY to William and Clara (Steinbeck) Reardon, she was raised in St. Johnsville. Mary was predeceased by all her siblings: Edward, Wilhemina, William, Frances, John (her twin) and Karl.
She was also the granddaughter of Civil War veteran and published diarist, 2nd Lt. Joseph J. Reardon (Company B, 115th Regiment, NY Volunteers; serialized St. Johnsville News, February 5 - July 15, 1908).
Mary delivered the Little Falls Evening Times in the St. Johnsville area with Mr. Crowley. Her family, particularly her brother Carl, had the only and largest paper route in the area.
Married at St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville on November 25, 1943, she was the widow of Leo Schutz (1982). Over a long and full life, Mary graduated from Little Falls High School and spent the pre-WW II years (1938-40) in New York City where she attended Gaines Business College and worked in the offices of Macy’s Dept. Store in Manhattan. She returned to St. Johnsville where she met her husband and worked in the town prior to her permanent relocation to Little Falls. Mary was a long-time secretary/bookkeeper first at Cherry-Burrell Corp., and then Casadonte Oil Co. until her retirement.
A volunteer at Little Falls Hospital in the late 1950's, Mary was also an avid bowler, golfer, driver for Catholic Charities and, in later years up until her death, bridge player.
A deeply spiritual, life-long communicant of Holy Family Parish, Mary was a member of the original St. Mary’s Altar Society, the current Rosary Society, and served for nearly two decades as a Eucharistic Minister.
She is survived by her only child, Barbara Mielcarski(Paul), of Mohawk; grandson, Eric Mielcarski (Laurel), and 2-year-old great-grandson, Logan, of Little Falls; sister-in-law, Rita Reardon  of Amherst, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends throughout the United States.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday (today), April 1, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls. Mary’s funeral will begin with prayer at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 2, at 10:15 a.m., followed by her Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Lawless at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Parish Church, East Main Street, Little Falls. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery (town of Herkimer) where Mary will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Leo.
