  • More than 50 puppies and dogs have been safely removed from an alleged puppy mill at 7145 State Route 5S in the town of Minden.
After receiving several complaint calls Wednesday night regarding the alleged conditions and barking coming from the barn, state police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Plain police executed a search warrant and proceeded with a joint investigation.
Once authorities arrived on scene more 50 dogs were found inside the barn.
Montgomery County Undersheriff and Investigator, Jeffery Smith said Friday, “The dogs were all successfully removed to other locations by 9 p.m. Thursday night.”
Because state police are currently leading the investigation, Smith said he could not release any further information.
Herkimer County Humane Society Assistant Manager Jodie Crews said several of the dogs were taken in at the humane society. “We started taking in the dogs on Thursday morning and so far they are all doing well. They’re eating a lot and they’re all very sweet,” she said.
The state police could not be reached for comment prior to deadline.
