  • Mrs. Lila Mae Bilger, 84, a resident of the Alpine Nursing Home since January of this year and formerly of 640 State Rt. 29A, Salisbury Center, died Tuesday morning, May 22, 2012, at the nursing home.

  • Mrs. Lila Mae Bilger, 84, a resident of the Alpine Nursing Home since January of this year and formerly of 640 State Rt. 29A, Salisbury Center, died Tuesday morning, May 22, 2012, at the nursing home.
    Lila was born in Salisbury on May 17, 1928, the daughter of Ernest J. and Ruth (Petzold) Herringshaw, and was educated in rural schools in the town of Salisbury.
    Her marriage to Edgar Bilger took place on September 10, 1944, in the town of Salisbury. Mr. Bilger predeceased her on October 16, 2007.
    Lila and her husband enjoyed their family and the 14 foster children that they raised, especially cooking for them at the many holidays throughout the years.
    She is survived by her sons and their wives, Raymond and Joan Bilger, of Salisbury Center, and Albert and Fredericka Johnson, of Stratford; a daughter, Eleanor Mosher, of Oppenheim; their foster children; her brothers and their wives, Harold and Ruth Herringshaw, of Little Falls, Herman and Sis Herringshaw, of Stratford, and Benjamin Herringshaw, of Little Falls; a sister, Gertrude Douglas, of St. Johnsville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, May 25, 2012, at 2:30 PM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home, 3 Faville Avenue, Dolgeville. Rev. Roger Waldron, of the Salisbury Center Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Salisbury Rural Cemetery. Callings hours are on Friday from 1:30 until the time of the service.
