  • Carl Douglas Case, Sr., age 72, of 105 Protection Avenue, formerly of Mill Road, Oppenheim, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 16, 2012, in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
Carl was born on October 18, 1939, in Fort Plain, son of the late Douglas C. and Ruth Sweet Case. He was raised and educated in Johnstown. In March of 1961, he was united in marriage with the former Jessie A. Watkins, in Canaan, CT.
For fifteen years, Mr. Case worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. In 1985, he went to work for the Feuer Leather Company in Gloversville and Johnstown, retiring in 2000 as supervisor with the company.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking, especially making jewelry boxes.  Many people marveled at the jewelry boxes he crafted that looked like a roll top desk.  Carl was also an outdoor sportsman and particularly liked to hunt and fish. To all who knew him, his greatest joy was his family and the pride he had for his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Treasured are the memories that they all have to share. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty years, Jessie; five sons and their wives, Brett and Barbara Thompson, of Boise, ID, Carl Jr. and Angela Case, of Scotia, Douglas and Elisabeth Case, of Dolgeville, Scott and Becky Case, of  Oppenheim, and Steve and Tina Case, of St. Johnsville; three daughters, Kim Butler and her husband, Gene, and Kelly Brown and her husband, Maynard, all of East Herkimer, and Shane Laymon, of Little Falls; twenty-five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Thompson.
At Mr. Case's request, all services and interment are private and at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
