A Mohawk woman was killed and four others seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 20 Saturday afternoon in Otsego County, near the Oneida County border, state police said.
At about 12:35 p.m., Nicole M. Dukerich, 22, of Mohawk, who was killed in the crash, was driving north on County Route 18 with her 3-year-old son when she drove through a stop sign at the intersection with Route 20 and collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Heather R. Simmons, 36, of Canastota, police said.
In Simmons' car were her daughter, 12, and her daughter’s friend, 13.
Dukerich’s son suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center before being taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he was listed in serious condition Saturday night, police said.
Simmons suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to St. Elizabeth's, where she was in serious condition Saturday night, police said.
Simmons’ daughter suffered a severe head injury and was in critical condition Saturday night at Upstate Medical Center, police said. Her friend was listed in serious condition at Upstate.
The New York State Police Troop C and D Collision Reconstruction Units, the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department, the Oneida County Office, Bridgewater Fire Department, Clayville Fire Department and West Winfield Fire Department also responded.
The accident remains under investigation.
