  • Renovations to the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Junior-Senior High School gymnasium and the playground at David H. Robbins Elementary School are under way.
Crews are preparing to install a new floor and modern composite bleachers in the gym.
At D.H. Robbins, new playground equipment will be installed. The new equipment will be constructed of a hypoallergenic, splinter-free, artificial-composite material.
The gymnasium and playground work are part of the third phase of a  $1.5 million bond referendum approved by St. Johnsville Central School District voters in 2011.
The first phase of the project included work on a portion of the D.H. Robbins roof and the second phase entailed relocation and replacement of fuel tanks at the elementary and high school buildings. The third phase of the project also includes the completion of the elementary school roof work and addresses electrical and plumbing issues in both buildings, as well as heating and ventilation work and work on the high school gym roof.
The former St. Johnsville Central School District used about $1.5 million from a capital reserve fund to pay for the project, as well as $362,000 in state EXCEL aid.
The district did not borrow money for the renovations, as the construction was based on what the district had the money to pay for.
The Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Central School Board of Education will meet Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the middle school in Oppenheim. New board member William Lints will be sworn in at the start of the meeting. The agenda will also include a presentation on the Model Schools Conference and approval of organizational items.
