  • Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees Chairman Donald Snyder was honored at a dedication of the Donald J. Snyder Corridor last week.
“The naming of this corridor, to also be known as ‘Don’s Way,’ recognizes Don for his love of the college, his leadership, his numerous contributions and his many, many years of committed service to our campus,” said HCCC President Ann Marie Murray.
Snyder, of West Winfield, was appointed to the board of trustees in 1991 and has served as chairman since 2001. His contributions to the college include assisting during the growth of the campus and the construction of the Technology Building, Wehrum Stadium and Reservoir Run and the renovation of the Robert McLaughlin College Center, the Ronald F. Williams Library and the Gaynor Science Center.
He is credited as being instrumental in securing a $300,000 gift for the renovation of the college’s science labs, which were formally dedicated as the Edward Manning and Shirley Augar Gaynor Science Center in November 2012. He is also credited as being instrumental in the selection of Murray as the college’s third president in 2008.
“It’s fitting that this corridor, which connects the library to Johnson Hall, has been dedicated as Don’s Way. The corridor is at the heart of the campus; it connects the building that is home to the science wing Don played a large part in making a reality to the building that houses the plaque in recognition of St. Joseph of Cupertino Don donated to the college,” said Murray. “I couldn’t think of a better way to honor Don.”
“Don’s way is God’s way,” said Snyder. “This ceremony makes me think about Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way.’ In it he says he’s lived a life that’s full, that he’s traveled every highway and that he did it his way. I’ve lived a life that’s full and I’ve traveled a lot of highways, but I didn’t do it Don’s way. I did it God’s way. That’s how I’ve live my life.”
“Anyone who knows my father knows his family and his faith are very important to him. After his family and faith HCCC is closest to his heart,” said John Snyder. “He is one of the most selfless people I know. He puts the needs of others before his own. Words cannot express how much he means to our family. It is our hope that his family here at HCCC and the students who will walk this corridor will make Don’s way their own.”
“It’s my wish that the students who walk this corridor identify their goals and follow their dreams within the walls of the buildings it connects,” said Donald Snyder.
