  • Mr. Elmer Edward Stowell, 89, a resident of the St. Luke’s Home in Utica since August 2004, and a former Oppenheim resident, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the nursing home.

  • Mr. Elmer Edward Stowell, 89, a resident of the St. Luke’s Home in Utica since August 2004, and a former Oppenheim resident, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the nursing home.
    He was born in Oppenheim on Oct. 12, 1923, the son of Irving and Delcia (Shulenburg) Stowell and attended Oppenheim school.
    A veteran of World War II, he served honorably in the United States Army.
    Elmer was employed at Beechnut Company in Canajoharie, and also worked for the town of Oppenheim a number of years ago.
    He is of the Methodist faith and personally enjoyed hunting and fishing and building bird houses.
    He is survived by a sister and her husband, Donna and Robert Peckham of Madison; his nieces, Lisa Beacraft, Gretchen Crandall and Kim Shaut, and a nephew, Charles Colella; additional great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Esther Ferguson in 1966.
    Graveside services with military honors will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Rural Park Cemetery, Ingham Mills. There are no calling hours.
    His arrangements are entrusted to Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville.
