The Herkimer County Emergency Operations Center announced Tuesday that Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis vaccinations will be available Wednesday, July 3, to responders, residents, and recovery workers in the areas impacted by the recent severe weather.
Officials are advising those who may have come into direct contact with floodwaters or debris to ensure that their Tdap vaccinations are up to date, or seek vaccination services.
The free vaccinations will be available at the following locations and times:
•Village of Herkimer – Salvation Army Office, 431 North Prospect Street. Vaccines will be provided between 9 a.m. and noon.
•Village of Mohawk – Mohawk Fire Department, 28 Columbia Street. Vaccines will be provided between 1 and 3:30 p.m.
Tdap is an adolescent and adult formulation containing tetanus and diphtheria toxoids, and acellular pertussis vaccine. These three diseases are all caused by bacteria. Diphtheria and pertussis are spread from person to person. Tetanus enters the body through cuts, scratches, or wounds.
