  • Twelve arrested in Montgomery Co. alcohol sting

  • The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the state Liquor Authority, arrested 12 people for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

    Law enforcement sent a person younger than 21 years of age into numerous locations throughout the county as part of a sting operation. The minor attempted to purchase alcohol at bars and stores permitted to sell alcohol by the state.

  • The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the state Liquor Authority, arrested 12 people for furnishing alcohol to a minor.
    Law enforcement sent a person younger than 21 years of age into numerous locations throughout the county as part of a sting operation. The minor attempted to purchase alcohol at bars and stores permitted to sell alcohol by the state.
    The following individuals were charged with misdemeanor unlawful dealing with a minor and were issued appearance tickets returnable in court at a later date:
    • Renee L. Raux, 51, of 4 Handy Dr., St. Johnsville (Little M, St. Johnsville)
    • Brandon Terrell, 31, of 68 Mohawk St., Fort Plain (Save A Lot, Fort Plain)
    • Nisar Rana, 40, of 11 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie (Petro USA, Canajoharie)
    • Kenneth Daly, 70, of 5 James St., Johnstown (Daly’s Liquour Mart, Palatine Bridge)
    • Alcide T. Bourdeau, 69, of 14 Berthoud St., Nelliston (Rite Aid, Palatine Bridge)
    • Sukhlinder Singh, 56, of 70 Union St., Fultonville (Betty Beaver’s, Fultonville)
    • Tammy M. Robb, 47, of 140 Lathrop Rd., Gloversville (Winners Circle, Fonda)
    • Erik Crane, 32, of 234 Division St., Amsterdam (Loopies, Tribes Hill)
    • Carol Stearns, 53, of 72 James St., Amsterdam (Kozy Corner, Tribes Hill)
    • Shakit S. Rajawat, 28, of 2 Sanford Ave., Amsterdam (Valley View Mart, Amsterdam)
    • Jeffrey Zukas, 59, of 5 Main St., Amsterdam (Dutch Mart Convenience, Amsterdam)
    • Giovanni Objio, 52, of 127 Market St., Amsterdam (El Caribe Market, Amsterdam)
    “This type of investigation will take place again and our goal is to have better percentages to report next time,” said Undersheriff Jeffery Smith in a news release. “A total of 31 establishments were checked and 12 arrests were made. This is unacceptable and shows alcohol is getting into the hands of people under the age of 21 way too often.”
    Smith added 38.7 percent of the time to be successful purchasing alcohol as a minor is “far too dangerous.” “As proms, graduation and summer holiday season approach this needs to change,” he said.
    Establishments that properly identified the underage individual and refused to sell the alcohol were Stewart’s, St. Johnsville; Kinney Drugs, St. Johnsville; Cumberland Farms, St. Johnsville; Stewart’s, Fort Plain; Nice N Easy, Fort Plain; Wrath of Grapes, Fort Plainl Flint Liquors, Canajoharie; Quick Gas Mart, Canajoharie; Cumberland Farms, Palatine Bridge; Price Chopper, Palatine Bridge; Stewart’s, Palatine Bridge; Stewart’s, Fonda; Cumberland Farms, Fonda; Super Mart, Fultonville; Lucky Dogs, Fultonville; Main Street Mart, Amsterdam; Guy Park Citgo, Amsterdam; Main Street Billiards, Amsterdam; and Imperial Lanes, Amsterdam.
    Amsterdam police, Canajoharie police, Fort Plain police and St. Johnsville police assisted with the sting within their jurisdictions, with Amsterdam charging people within the city.
