  • A plan presented by the village police chief Thursday evening to the Frankfort Village Board of Trustees will save full-time positions from being cut to part-time.
Police Chief Ronald Petrie said Friday he has a full-time officer who is transferring to another agency, and it’s been decided the individual’s position won’t be filled.
Mayor Frank Moracco has said two full-time officers potentially could be reduced to part-time status.
The village has four full-time police officers, one who has been on extended medical leave, Petrie said.
“The big difference is having two full timers cut back to part-time, their wages would’ve been cut to a point where they would’ve both resigned,” he said. “This (plan), at least the officer is transferring to a department that’s paying more and the other officer gets to maintain his job and wages.”
Petrie further explained previous concerns of not being able to operate a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week service have been alleviated somewhat.
He said the problem he may run into is staffing when an officer falls sick or gets injured.
“We’re reviewing every department to see if there is any way we can review the current budget,” the village mayor has said.
Moracco said there are budget constraints because of an unexpected $60,000 payout in an assessment grievance lawsuit, and another $60,000 is needed to demolish a structure that is a public safety issue.
Moracco also said the village will face increases in retirement and medical insurance as well.
He could not immediately be reached for additional comment on the latest plan.
