  • Garry (Gerrit) Roorda, 83, of 115 Mosher Road, St. Johnsville, entered into eternal rest on Saturday February 16, 2013, at the Folts Home, Herkimer, NY.
    He was born December 14, 1929, in Hijum, Friesland, Netherlands, the son of the late Pieter and Metke (Speensma) Roorda.
    Garry immigrated to the United States on August 14, 1947. He was married to Theresa DeVries on June 27, 1952 in Goshen, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage for 57 years until the passing of Theresa on August 5, 2009.
    Mr. Roorda was a life-long dairy farmer until his retirement in 1988, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Little Falls.
    Garry loved his family, friends, his faith and all facets of dairy farming. He also loved gardening, going to dairy auctions, and spending time with his beloved family.
    Survivors include five sons, Peter Roorda and his wife, Deborah, of South Carolina, Samuel Roorda and his wife, Debra, of Herkimer, Garry A. Roorda, of Johnstown, Roy Roorda and his wife, Tammy, of Herkimer, Ken Roorda and his wife, Laurie, of Little Falls; his beloved 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Glynnis Sytsema and husband, William, of Sussex, NJ and Barbara Kolk and husband, Douglas, of Holly Hill, Florida; two brothers, Orie Roorda, of Holland, Michigan and Sydney Roorda and wife, Geziena, of Bridport, Vermont; and many beloved nieces nephews, and cousins.
    In keeping with Garry’s wishes funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Spring burial will take place in West St. Johnsville at a time to be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY, 518-568-7040. In lieu of flowers please make all memorial contributions in Garry’s name to the First Baptist Church, 555 Albany Street, Little Falls, NY 13365.
