The St. Johnsville Saints leveled their regular-season record with a 68-33 win Thursday over Galway’s Golden Eagles.
The Saints (9-9) had already beaten Galway twice in Western Athletic Conference North Division play and drew the Golden Eagles again for a season-ending crossover. They raced out to a 43-17 halftime lead at home with Alex Hart scoring nine of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter and Dylan Klock pouring in 12 points in the second.
Klock finished the game with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Kyle Smith added 14 points.
Day John Marshall led the Golden Eagles with 12 points.
Galway (1-17) was playing for the first time since the death of team captain Andrew Izzo one week earlier. A moment of silence was held for Izzo’s memory prior to the game with the clock ticking off 11 seconds to match the senior’s uniform number.
The Golden Eagles had been winless before beating Sharon Springs in a Feb. 5 crossover.
St. Johnsville is seeded eighth for Section II’s Class D playoffs and plays at home again Wednesday against No. 9 Heatly. Wednesday’s winner travels to Stillwater High School Feb. 23 to meet undefeated top seed Argyle, the state’s top-ranked Class D team, in the quarterfinals.
