  • Fort Plain to ring in 2013 with Last Night Celebration

  • Residents can commemorate the final day of 2012 and the first day of 2013 at the Last Night New Year’s Celebration in the village of Fort Plain. Hosted by the Fort Plain Community Activities Council, the memorable evening will be full of family-fun activities and special performances that will take place at various indoor and outdoor locations around the village.
    The celebration will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight on Monday, Dec. 31.
    Headquarters for the evening will be 47 Main St., where the Friends of Fort Plain will have buttons, wristbands, maps and schedules available. A shuttle bus will be available from 4 to 10 p.m.
    A pulled pork supper will be served at the Fort Plain Reformed Church, 165 Canal St., from 4 to 6:30 p.m. From 6 to 11 p.m., the Ayres House at 111 Canal St. will serve chili, corn chowder and macaroni and cheese with ham. Hay rides will start at the bandstand in Haslett Park and will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Children will be able to complete different craft projects at Fort Plain True Value, 12 Willett St., from 4 to 9 p.m. Adults will be able to see the newly remolded store and enjoy refreshments.
    From 7 to 10 p.m., the Fort Plain Museum, 389 Canal St., will host Stone Soup, an acoustic band that will play a variety of traditional blues, jazz and folk songs, as well as Gospel music, Irish songs, Australian folk music and original pieces. Refreshments will be available.
    The Empty Pockets Band will perform bluegrass music at the Fort Plain Free Library from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and from 8:15 to 9 p.m. Comedians Jennifer McMullen and Shawn Gillie will perform a 30-minute show with adult content at the Fort Plain VFW, River Street and Willett Street, at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. The comedy show will only be open to individuals 18 years of age and older.
    Individuals will be able to test their skill at hubcap tossing, fish casting or target shooting during the Redneck Games at Sportsmen’s Den on Canal Street from 7 p.m. to midnight.
    The Dependents and DJ CA will perform at the Fort Plain Fire House on Canal Street beginning at 8 p.m. Individuals are also invited to get a team together to play broomstick hockey at the fire house. The Fort Plain Central School chapter of SADD will offer refreshments at the venue.
    The Delta Storm Kings will play “unplugged” at the Ayres House from 8 to 11 p.m. At Unity Hall, Center Street and Mohawk Street, continuous shows will be presented beginning at 8 p.m. The shows will include live acoustical performances by the group Karen and Joe, as well as by Mike Hayes and Will Schuyler of Max Violet and Leslie Kubica and Company. The Jan Cronkhite Quartet will perform at the Fort Plain Senior Center, 2204 Canal St., from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
    Page 2 of 2 - The Elks Lodge on River Street in Nelliston will present the County Line Rebels from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Adults will be able to enjoy beer, wine and refreshments under the adult entertainment tent at the village clock in Fort Plain from 6 p.m. to midnight. Music will be provided by DJ Wayne Tucker.
    At midnight, everyone will gather under the village clock in Fort Plain for a miniature Times Square block party. DJ Wayne Tucker will countdown the time as the new year approaches.
    Presale buttons are $7 for adults and presale wristbands are $1 for children 10 years of age and younger. The presale buttons and wristbands are available now at NBT Bank, the Fort Plain News Room, Papa Joe’s Pizza, the Fort Plain Free Library, The Medicine Shoppe and the Fort Plain Village Office in Fort Plain; NBT Bank and Margaret Reaney Memorial Library in St. Johnsville; and the Village Restaurant, Picture Perfect and Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library in Canajoharie.
    Last Night is a New Year’s Eve celebration that has rotated through the western Montgomery County villages of St. Johnsville, Canajoharie and Fort Plain since 2007.
