    Keegan Long won his fourth consecutive start Friday in leading the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs to an 8-1 victory over Cooperstown’s slumping Hawkeyes.



    Long struck out eight batters and walked one through 5 2/3 innings.

    Keegan Long won his fourth consecutive start Friday in leading the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs to an 8-1 victory over Cooperstown’s slumping Hawkeyes.
    Long struck out eight batters and walked one through 5 2/3 innings, allowing a single unearned run on a two-out throwing error in the fourth inning.
    The DiamondDawgs needed just three batters to take the lead in the first inning as they sent the Hawkeyes to eighth consecutive defeat. Jordan Serena led off with a single, Jack Stover walked Willie Shaw and the runners advanced on a passed ball before scoring on a hit by Dalton Herrington. Herrington later scored on on the first of Casey Rodrigue’s four hits.
    The Herrington-Rodrigue combination produced another run in the third inning. Herrington and Landon Thibodeaux started the inning with back-to-back hits and Herrington scored on a single by Rodrigue.
    Rodrigue drove in a third run with his double in the fifth inning then scored on a hit by Joey Tracy. Tracy and David Peretti drove in runs in the seventh.
    Herrington had three hits and raised added two stolen bases to his Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League-leading total which now stands at 26 through 27 games. Tracy, Peretti and Thibodeaux each had two hits.
    Long has compiled a 1.48 ERA during his winning streak with 33 strikeouts and five walks in 24 1/3 innings. Tyler Bray struck out six Hawkeyes in 2 1/3 innings of relief and Zach Williams fanned two of the three batters he faced in the ninth.
    Stefan Jordan had two of Cooperstown’s six hits.
    The DiamondDawgs travel to Elmira for a game Saturday. They will play a doubleheader at home Sunday at 5:05 p.m. against the Albany Dutchmen.
