  •  Janet R. Miko, 78, of Salisbury Center, New York, passed away peacefully at the Folts Home in Herkimer, on Saturday morning, August 4, 2012.
    She was born on September 20, 1933, in Ilion, New York, a daughter of the late, Claude and Esther (March) Luther. Janet was educated at Herkimer High School and graduated with the Class of 1952.
    On September 5, 1953, Janet was united in marriage to John Miko, Jr,. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Falls, New York. They shared a union of 46 years until Mr. Miko passed away on September 29, 1999.
    She spent most of her life caring for her husband, children and home. In later years, Janet worked at Dolgeville Central School in the cafeteria.
    Janet was a parishioner of Salisbury Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, Spruce Lake Fish and Game Club, Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, Salisbury Grange, Salisbury Historical Society, and Auskerada Maquaes Rock City Chapter #204, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also very involved with the Herkimer County ARC and an active supporter and member of the Republican Committee of Herkimer County.
    Janet liked to sew, visit with friends, and enjoyed going out to eat. Many people will remember her as being very social and enjoyed most of her time spent with her friends, for whom she considered family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
    She is survived by her three beloved children, Diane Lynn Miko, of Sodus, NY, Holly Jo Hogan and her husband, George, of Rochester, NY, and Steven Paul Miko and Gina Tricamo, of Sodus, NY; three cherished grandchildren, Thomas Patrick Vail, Jr., of Rochester, NY, Elizabeth Diane Vail, of Pittsburg, PA, and Amelia Grace Miko, of Sodus, NY; her sisters, Kathy Morse and Jean Anna; her brothers, Robert Luther and Charles Luther; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    Janet was predeceased by her beloved son, John Steven Miko.
    Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, NY 13329. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Ordained Minister George Exley officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Little Falls, NY.
    In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions for the Salisbury Grange, Salisbury Historical Society or the Herkimer County ARC. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
    The Miko Family would like to thank Janet’s friends for visiting with her and keeping her company during her final hours. Their love and support for her will never be forgotten.
