Investigators are expected to reveal during a press conference on Tuesday their current findings in last month’s Old Forge shooting death of a Utica school teacher, prosecutors said.
It has not yet been released publicly whether 30-year-old Catherine Koestner died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the Forge Motel early Aug. 25, or if somebody else was responsible for her death after a reported argument with her boyfriend, Joseph Moore.
Koestner was shot with one of Moore’s legally possessed handguns, but investigators have only described Moore, 50, of Clinton, as a witness to the shooting. At this time, nobody is in police custody in connection to Koestner’s death, police said.
During the 3:30 p.m. Tuesday press conference with state police at the East Herkimer barracks, prosecutors said authorities will disclose “where we are in our investigation and what our findings are to date.”
“We will put forth whatever information we can reasonably put out at this time,” Herkimer County Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter said Friday.
“The public and the press have been very patient, and I appreciate that, and I do anticipate at least probably filling in some of the questions the public may have at this time, to the extent that it will not jeopardize the investigation," he said.
