  • Marjorie Mae Nichols, 84, formerly of Ilion and East Herkimer, entered into the presence of our Lord Friday, May 24, 2013. Her family was by her side singing “Precious Lord, take my Hand, lead me home.”
Marjorie was born on Feb. 11, 1929, a daughter of the late Jerome and Florence Smith Wandover. She grew up in Forestport. On July 30, 1949, she married Walter Nichols in the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer, where she was a lifelong member. They shared 54 years of marriage until Walter's passing in 2003. She then moved to Arizona to be near her children.
Marjorie was a member of the Decorative Painters Society. She was a volunteer for several organizations and had been employed at Remington Rand, GE and Salada Tea company. She retired in 1996. Marjorie had a strong faith in God and was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and her pets. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crafts, sewing, hiking, NASCAR, basketball and bird-watching. Mostly, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was generous and loving and a sweetie to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Pultorak (and Bob), Jean Pallone (and Ed) and Doug Nichols (and Deb); grandchildren, Tom Pultorak (and Shantele) and Kristy Pultorak; great-grandchildren, Kolton and Aurora; a brother, Hubert Wandover (and Pauley); a sister, Beatrice Lawrence; sister-in-law, Sue Wandover; and several nieces and nephews, including Florence Mroz.
Besides her parents and husband, Walter, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Wandover; two sisters, Lillian Cugliandro and Viola Thorhauer; a granddaughter, Carrie Pallone; and a great-granddaughter, Keeley Pultorak.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013, in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, in the funeral home, one hour prior to the funeral service (noon to 1 p.m).
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer and Little Falls. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
