  • Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School conducted a meet-the-canidates night for its board of education candidates on Thursday.
The six people the running for the three open seats on the board include incumbent Jennifer Frasier, incumbent David Rackmyre, Cindy Breh, Bruce Carpenter, Ben Conte and Cheryl Lynch.
Rackmyre and Breh were unable to attend.
During the event the candidates participated in a question and answer session. At the door, members of the community were able to submit questions to have answered by the candidates. During the session, all candidates were asked the same set of questions and given a chance to answer.
When it came time for the question and answer session all of the candidates had the same goal in mind — keep the core most important courses and take what is available during the hard economic times; and keep the most important core courses and make them the best quality for the students.
Each candidate made a personal statement as to what they would do for the board of education if elected.
Conte responded by saying, “I would do the best I can to prepare students for the 21 century.”
“It’s a pleasure to have previously sat on the board and I still want to be here, not only for my own children, but for the good of everyone’s children,” said Frasier.”
Carpenter said, “I will do what I can to help out the district.”
“As a board member I would keep the main focus on student education. I have a lot to learn, but I really enjoy this school. I went here, my husband went here, my kids went here and I want my grandchildren to come here too,” said Lynch.
The election for the Oppenheim-Ephratah Board of Education candidates will take place at the school on Tuesday, May 15, from noon until 8 p.m. The budget vote will also take place on May 15.
Thursday night’s event was hosted by Oppenheim-Ephratah Teachers’ Association and the Parent Teacher Association.
