  • Beatrice Celia Burke (nee Getman), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and musician, passed away May 7, 2012, at Folts Home, Herkimer, aged 96 years.

  • Beatrice Celia Burke (nee Getman), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and musician, passed away May 7, 2012, at Folts Home, Herkimer, aged 96 years.
    Bea was born July 22, 1915, daughter to Richard G. and Mabel Cole Getman. She graduated Mohawk High School, followed by Oneonta Normal Teachers’ School in 1936. She married Wallace C. Burke on Jan. 1, 1947, in Columbia Center.
    Bea was a talented pianist, organist and vocalist in area churches for over 50 years. She contributed to concerts, services, funerals and weddings in the Central New York area as an expression of her lifelong Christian faith and charity towards others. For 60 years, she instructed students in piano and organ. She served as an elementary school teacher for 11 years in Margaretville. In her spare time, Bea enjoyed being an absolute whiz at word puzzles, knitting and crocheting.
    She is survived by four sons and one daughter-in-law, Timothy R., of Westfield, N.J., Ronald G. and Annajo, of Columbia Center, and Gary W. and Theodore C., of Black Canyon, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Ryan J. Burke, Sarah Burke Spolaor and Hannah A. Burke.
    Burial arrangements are through Fenner Funeral Home, of Herkimer. The public is invited to a memorial service on Monday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Columbia Center Community Church with the Rev. Hans Drews officiating. The memorial will be followed by a luncheon reception at the Richfield Springs Bible Church. Interment is at the Columbia Center Cemetery.
