    The Canajoharie Cougars built an 18-point lead through three quarters Friday and defeated St. Johnsville’s Saints 53-43.

    The Canajoharie Cougars built an 18-point lead through three quarters Friday and defeated St. Johnsville’s Saints 53-43.
    The Saints, who came back from a similar deficit to beat Sarataoga Catholic at home Tuesday, cut into the Cougars’ lead in  the final period.
    Kevin Shannon led Canajoharie (6-2, 5-1 WAC North) with 14 points as the Cougars moved past Fort Plain and into first place in the North Division of the Western Athletic Conference. Logan Sala added nine points on three three-point shots and Dillan Veeder scored eight points.
    Brandon Campione had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals for St. Johnsville (1-4, 1-3 WAC North). Dylan Klock and Johnny Vicciarelli each scored nine points and Ricky Jasewicz blocked three shots.
    Canajoharie hosts its three-team Andy Palmer Christmas Classic Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Cougars play Thursday against Schoharie and Saturday against Johnstown.
    St. Johnsville also has three teams lined up for its Coach Cutspec Tournament. Dolgeville meets Middleburgh in the opening game Thursday. St. Johnsville plays Friday against Middleburgh and Saturday against Dolgeville.

    SARATOGA CATHOLIC 72, FORT PLAIN 25
    SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Saratoga Catholic Saints outscored Fort Plain by double digits in all four quarters of Friday’s 72-25 win over the Hilltoppers.
    The Saints (3-4, 3-2 WAC North), who blew an 18-point lead in a loss in St. Johnsville earlier in the week, led 38-15 at halftime on their home court Friday.
    Ryan Czarnecki led Saratoga Catholic with 14 points and was one of six Saints with at least eight. Michael Naughton Luke Spicer each added 11 points, Keegan Murphy scored 10 and Cameron Cross and Bryan Hall had eight each.
    Stephen Belden was the high scorer for Fort Plain (5-2, 4-1 WAC North) with six points.
    The loss knocked the Hilltoppers out of first place in the Western Athletic Conference’s North Division. They play in Cooperstown’s Dick White Tournament Thursday and Friday. Fort Plain and Cooperstown meet in the late game Thursday following a game between Cobleskill-Richmondville and Sidney.
