  • A partial derailment of a CSX train in the town of Manheim led to grain being spilled, Little Falls Fire Department officials said Thursday afternoon.
The derailment occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of State Route 5 and Ashe Road after a wheel broke from one of the cars carrying grain, Assistant Chief Bill Dodge said.
Dodge said fire crews only were there a short period of time, establishing it was wheat leaking from the car.
CSX Spokesman Bob Sullivan said the train was traveling from Crestline, Ohio, to Albany with locomotives and 88 freight cars.
He said only one car derailed and crews were at the scene cleaning up the area.
Other trains were able to pass through, he added.
