A season that started a week earlier with a thrilling win for Frankfort-Schuyler and a heart-breaking loss for Little Falls brought more of the same when the two squads met Friday at Lt. Ferraro Memorial Field.
Frankfort-Schuyler’s Maroon Knights let a 24-0 lead slip away and fell behind in overtime before pulling out a 38-36 win in front of their hometown fans.
After Little Falls tied the game in the third quarter, Frankfort-Schuyler (2-0, 1-0 C East) took the lead again in the fourth on Brandon Longo’s fourth touchdown of the night. Little Falls quarterback Mike Battisti answered by scoring his third touchdown and the game went to overtime tied at 30 after the Mounties were stopped for the first time on a two-point conversion attempt.
Little Falls had the ball first in overtime and took the lead for the first time on a 23-yard Battisti touchdown run. The Maroon Knights stopped the conversion attempt again and took possession needing a touchdown to tie.
Facing fourth down at Little Falls’ 14-yard line, the Maroon Knights called a pass play and Joe DeSarro through the tying touchdown pass to Justin Kiesow. DeSarro, who had run for a touchdown earlier in the game, ran in the conversion and gave the Maroon Knights a win in the Class C East opener for both teams.
The Maroon Knights had beaten Sauquoit Valley with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter of the non-league opener seven days earlier. Little Falls (0-2, 0-1 C East) lost a game it led in overtime after opening the season with a 20-13 loss when Dolgeville scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
Little Falls got on the board before halftime when Tyler McLean ran five yards for a touchdown. Battisti’s conversion run  made the score 24-8 at the intermission. Battiti had touchdown runs of 47 and 27 yards in the third quarter and he and McLean each had a two-point conversion to pull the Mounties even on the scoreboard.
Longo ran for 214 yards on 28 carries and scored on runs of five, one, one and one yards.
Frankfort-Schuyler takes on Herkimer at home Friday while Little Falls’ next game is Saturday at home against Holland Patent.
