    Bri Slater scored the winning goal in the 70th minute of the Canajoharie Cougars’ 4-3 victory over Fort Plain Wednesday.
    The teams were tied at 2 at halftime. Slater’s second goal of the contest snapped a 3-all tie with 10:05 remaining in the second half.
    Makaila Bates scored all three goals for Fort Plain (0-1-0, 0-1-0 WAC Central). Goalie Jenna Barhydt made 13 saves.
    Jenelle Dillenbeck and Kara Schwab each scored a goal for Canajoharie (1-0-0, 1-0-0 WAC Central).
    Fort Plain plays at Sharon Springs Friday while Canajoharie travels to St. Johnsville.
    ST. JOHNSVILLE 2, SHARON SPRINGS 0
    ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. — Leann Knapp made five saves Wednesday as St. Johnsville’s Saints defeated the Sharon Springs Spartans 2-0 in the first half of a girls-and-boys doubleheader at Soldiers and Sailors Park.
    Meghan Clarke scored both goals for St. Johnsville (1-0-0, 1-0-0 WAC Central). her unassisted goal gave the Saints a 1-0 halftime lead. She added a second goal in the second half with an assist from Jessica Hagadorn.
    Alexis VanArsdale made 10 saves for the Spartans (0-1-0, 0-1-0 WAC Central) who were outshot 20-8.
    The Saints play at home Friday against Canajoharie.
    MOHAWK 2, MT. MARKHAM 0
    MOHAWK, N.Y. — The Mohawk Mohicans got 10 saves from Alicia Ceneviva Wednesday and shut the Mt. Markham Mustangs out 2-0 to open the season.
    The Mohicans led 1-0 at halftime. Nicole Wren and Noel Newkirk scored the Mohicans’ goals. Abby Jouben and Johna Cusworth were credited with assists for Mohawk (1-0-0).
    Angela Bartlett had nine saves for Mt. Markham (0-1-0).
    The Mustangs’ next match is Friday against herkimer at the West Winfield Optimist Tournament. Mohawk plays in the West Canada Valley Kick-Off Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
    WEST CANADA VALLEY 5, FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 0
    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — Kalli Warmingham and Shannon Phillips each had two goals and an assist Wednesday and the West Canada Valley Indians were 5-0 winners on the road against the Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights.
    Sydney McEvoy added a goal for the Indians (1-0-0). Alexis Fauvelle chipped in with a pair of assists and Courtney Phillips made seven saves in the shutout.
    Cassandra Grippe made 13 saves for Frankfort-Schuyler (0-1-0).
    West Canada Valley hosts its annual kickoff tournament Saturday and Sunday. Frankfort-Schuyler’s next match is Tuesday against Westmoreland.
    REMSEN 6, WESTMORELAND 0
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — The Remsen Rams did all of their scoring before halftime in Wednesday’s 6-0 shutout of the Westmoreland Bulldogs.
    Erin O’Connor scored five goals for the Rams (3-0-0) and Elisha Hamilton added one. Taylor Childers, Liz Swasey, Cortney Taylor, Rachel Waterbury, Joleen Marfone and Brittany Waterbury each contributed an assist. Megan Will made eight saves in the shutout.

    POLAND 4, CINCINNATUS 1
    HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Poland Tornadoes were 4-1 winners against Cincinnatus Wednesday in the first round of Hamilton’s Optimist Tournament.
    The Tornadoes (1-0-0) got two goals each from Mikayla Blumenstock and Paige Sullivan and led 2-0 at halftime. Alyssa Lepper and Tara Seigle each contributed an assist and Courtney Green made five saves.
    Bailey Rutan scored for Cincinnatus (0-1-0).
    Poland takes on the tournament’s host school Saturday at noon.
