Arthella Hopper turned 100 years young on Tuesday.

To celebrate the occasion, the Nathan Galinsky Apartments held a birthday ceremony. In attendance were residents, friends and family.

Herkimer County Legislator Helen Rose was in attendance to present Hopper with the proclamation from Herkimer County that June 26 was officially acknowledged as Arthella Hopper Day. Herkimer Village Mayor Mark Ainsworth presented Hopper with a village proclamation acknowledging June 26 as Arthella Hopper Day in the village of Herkimer.

“I never expected to make it to 100 years old and here I am,” Hopper said.

She also received a birthday card from President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, congratulating Hopper for reaching the century mark.
