The Mohawk Central School Board of Education discussed its membership during Monday night’s meeting.
Vice President Vicki Judd ran the meeting as acting president as former board President James Fleming resigned from the position and the board on Feb. 25.
According to New York State Educational Law, when a board president resigns the vice president takes over as acting president until a suitable candidate can be found, said interim Superintendent Gene Beirne during a telephone interview on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the board decided to put together a list of former board members for candidates that would make for a suitable board member for the rest of the school year.
“The Mohawk district is only going to exist for a few more months and it just makes life easier considering former board members for the position,” said Beirne.
Once selected the new board member will be appointed to the board on March 18.
On April 1, the new board member will be sworn in and the Mohawk Board of Education will have five members able to participate and vote for the new board president at the meeting, added Beirne.
In other business, Beirne said petitions are due on March 11 for the merged school district board of education and that the vote for the merged school district board of education will take place at Ilion Junior-Senior High School on March 27.
Judd acknowledged the varsity boys’ basketball team for the great work they did getting to the Carrier Dome.
“They have given a great season full of happy memories. They represented the school well in terms of behavior and conduct and we couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Beirne.
