Ilion village police arrested a woman after she allegedly abused her son during a domestic dispute around 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 3
Holly Marie Remis, 26, of 274 W. Main St., was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said they learned during the investigation that Remis allegedly placed her foot against the stomach of her five-year-old son and forcibly shoved the child backwards away from her, while using profanity. Police said the child was thrown about six feet and fell onto his buttocks.
The child was not injured in the incident, said police.
A Child Abuse Hotline report was placed to the state Child Abuse Registry and notification was subsequently made to Herkimer County Child Protective Services, said police.
The child and a sibling were temporarily placed in the custody of other family members, said police.
Remis was ticketed and released. She is due in Ilion Village Court on Aug. 14.
