A 17-year-old woman faces charges, including driving while intoxicated, after an accident in Brookwood Park in the village of Herkimer.
Police said the Herkimer County 911 Center received a call on Sept. 9 at 7 a.m. reporting a one-car personal injury accident in Brookwood Park.
Police responded to find a 2000 Jeep Cherokee overturned on its roof in the grass. Four occupants were near the vehicle, two 17-year-old females and two males, ages 19 and 21, police said. The 19-year-old male was injured, semiconscious and complaining of head and chest pain, police said.
The driver, a 17-year-old female, whose name was withheld due to her age, stated she was four-wheeling on the sports field and grass with a new vehicle, police said. As she was exiting the park she lost control, overturning her vehicle and injuring one of her passengers, police said. Police said the female was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent.
In addition to being charged with DWI and DWI with a BAC greater than .08 percent, the driver was charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle at a speed not reasonable and prudent, second-degree reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, police said.
She was also charged with damaging the athletic field with her vehicle, police said.
She was released on tickets to appear in Herkimer Village Court on Sept. 12, police said.
The injured male was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where he is being treated for head and chest trauma, as well as a broken clavicle, police said.
